Out of this world Art and Writing P6/7

As part of their Space topic, P6/7 used different oil pastel techniques to produce fantastic artwork. They also wrote detailed descriptions of imaginative planets using lots of language techniques such as similes, metaphors and personification.

P6/7 Tables Awards

P6/7 have been working hard to improve their speed of recall for multilpying table facts. These children all received certificates for great improvements, meeting the target they set for themselves for 100 facts. Hollie (2.05min) and Jacob (2.56min) were the ‘Tables Whizz’ for P6 & P7 with very fast times.

Spinning Around!

P6/7 made models of the sun, earth and moon to help explain how the earth spins on its axis and orbits the sun to give us day and night and seasons. They also used it to demonstate what happens when there is a solar and lunar eclipse.

Planet Powerpoints

P6/7 continued their work on space by researching and creating powerpoints about the planets. They used lots of ICT skills in this task from using animations to inserting hyperlinks.

Play dough Planets

P6/7 started their new topic of Space by looking at our solar system. They created a mnemonic to remember the order of the planets then used playdough to show their sizes. They discovered that using the same scale, the sun would be 1 metre wide and weigh the same as a Smart car!

'Forest Schools' Day

P1 and P2 had a busy day today as they tried out lots of Forest School activities. They investigated trees, built dens and made Forest Buddies.

P6 Smarties data handling

P6 investigated if all Smarties packets had the same number of sweets and colours. They drew bar graphs to show their results and also used the language of probability to describe the likelihood of picking different colours. They even got the chance to eat the Smarties which made doing maths even more enjoyable!

P6/7 Submarine testing

P6/7 finished off their Water topic by looking at the science behind divers and submarines. They made their own Cartesian divers and then were challenged to design their own submarine which would sink to the bottom and then rise to the top. Lots of great teamwork and problem-solving took place with some very successful submarines!

P1 and P2 Shared Education

Today we made forest crowns and investigated the plants growing in our school grounds. We also had some time to play!

Outdoor Maths and Literacy

P6/7 took their learning outside during the first day back to school after Easter, making the most of the lovely, dry weather. In Maths, they made their own magic squares using objects they found around school and in Literacy, they played a retrieval race. This involved finding the answers to a Spring comprehension as quickly as possible but also being accurate at the same time. Beth and Harry were fastest finishers while Dan and Noah scored the most points.

P6/7 River poems

P1/P2 Shared Education

Today we welcomed the children from St.Patrick’s primary School, Rasharkin to join us for a Nature Art morning. What a great display of artistic talent!

P1 and P2 virtual trip to Dromona

Paddington Bear travelled to the farm and Dromona Creamery with his camera to allow the children to see where our milk comes from. He even brought us back some delicious cheddar cheese and tasty Dale farm ice cream.

The Countryside

Our new topic for this term in P1 and P2 is all about ‘The Countryside’. The children have been learning about all the jobs to be done on the farm and in the garden centre.

Safer Internet Day

The theme for this year’s Safer Internet Day was “Want to talk about it? P6/7 used C2K Newsdesk to listen to other children talk about good ways to communicate and stay safe online. They then designed posters with top tips such as showing respect in how you communicate and who to talk to if things go wrong online.

P2 numeracy

P2 children have been learning how to count in 2s by making their own counting sticks and investigating with Numicon.

Outdoor Play

P1 and P2 enjoyed playing and learning outdoors today, making the most of the better weather. Once we read the story, “What will I build?” we set to work creating submarines, trains, castles and airports!

Thankful For...

As part of our health and well being program, P1 and P2 were making ‘thankful hearts’ to give out. Family, friends, our homes and food were some of the ideas that we came up with.

Picasso portraits P6/7

P6/7 created some cubist style portraits in the style of Spanish artist Pablo Picasso.

Izak 9

P6/7 have been working hard to learn about the relationships between decimals, percentages and fractions. They used Izak9 blocks to represent this.
